Alright, everyone. I'm really hoping to get some good feedback here. Take a look at the above image. It's my book cover for Death Can Wait. I've been receiving some excellent reviews about the book itself but several people have expressed their dissatisfaction with the book cover. Please, let me know what you honestly think about the cover. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Every honest answer is encouraged as it will help to make my future book covers better! Thank you everyone for your support and help. Also, if you have read the book, please consider heading over to Amazon or Goodreads and leave it a review. It really helps out a lot! Thanks for reading.

I think it's creative. Although some may find it grotesque, I think it captures the heat of action that this book is all about.

In addition, I'm sure many fans don't realize that it's your hand in the photo.

No one has really complained about the image being to grotesque. But it does seem to be a common theme that the book cover doesn't do the story justice. I'm learning that the cover may have been too specific to the story and didn't really sum up the book. It should have been a little more ambiguous.

In the context of the novel, the cover perfectly captures the main elements of the story.

I will say though, that before I was aware of what kind if story it was and before reading the description, I honestly thought it would involve cannibals.

Also, when re-reading the desciption, i still got the same feeling. I hope this helps a little!

That does help a lot. What I'm learning is the image is a bit too specific to the story and is really only understood once the book is read. Maybe my covers should be a little more ambiguous?

That could definitely help i think, or on the opposite end, be a little more specific in the description so the cover makes a bit more sense up front.

With this book, the storm is decribed and can be seen in the lettering, which worked.

Then there's the reference to blood thirtsy men who are protecting their island and to reference that there's a bloody hand. That works as well, but there needs to be a little more in reference to what the charcters will be facing in the description or the cover. Either specify what kind of men they are (cannibal or military for example) in the description or maybe add something to the cover to show the same info.

Again, I hope this helps!

That is incredibly helpful. I think I need to rethink how I write my descriptions. Right now, I write them based on what happens in the book. In the future, I should make sure I include all elements of the cover in the description. Thank you for your help. It's been great!
